The electric grid stands at an inflection point.  Utilities face a plethora of challenges, including an aging infrastructure, impacts of climate-change, keeping pace with societal electrification and supporting the green energy movement, particularly around the deployment of renewable energy and the emergence of electric vehicles. These factors demand a grid capable of handling increasing energy demands and the integration of technologies such as edge compute, automation, real-time sense and control and use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. These challenges drive the need to upgrade and transform power grids, and doing so will require a network and control system able to capture data, analyze and react in real-time.
